India History



India has seen fall and decline of several great kingdoms. The remains of most ancient civilizations are found in India. Indus Valley Civilization and Vedic Civilization are the ancient civilizations of this country. In Indian languages, India is known as 'Bhaarat' or 'Bhaaratvarsha'. Some ancient names of India are 'Aryavrat', 'Jampudweep' etc.

We do not get much detail about the Indus Valley Civilization except some archeological evidences. But, a lot of histories are available about the Vedic age, in several scriptures. Ramayan, Mahabharat, Puranas are the scriptures which consist of the stories of that time. Some of these stories are in mythological forms about which more research are required.

In 563 B.C., Gautam Buddha who was the founder of Buddhism was born in India. This is also the time of the famous Jain saint Mahavira. Mauryan Empire is one of the biggest kingdoms in India and Chandragupta Maurya was the first king of this dynasty.

Chandragupta's grandson Ashok was another popular king of India and he spread Buddhism in different countries of the world. King Ashok was born in the 4th century B.C. Gupta, Cholas, Pandyas and Cheras are some other popular dynasties of India history.

Time to time many invaders also came in India and became the part of the nation. The Mughal dynasty is worth discussing in this regards. The first Mughal emperor who entered India was Babar and thereafter many other Mughal kings gained fame in India. Akbar is a significant emperor. East India Company entered India during 1600 and later on the Nation was ruled by the British kingdom up to 1947 A.D. A lot of leaders and freedom fighters struggled for freedom. Some of them are Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad etc. After freedom also, India have seen many great personalities, such as Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and many more.
